Not so pig-ma(mma)lian effects
I have just spent 16 of the last 24 hours asleep - quite a record for me!
THURSDAY MORNING
Thanksgiving started with a hearty dimsum breakfast at Phoenix, and somehow we managed to get 30 ppl down to Chinatown and into the restaurant:
Next, spent the entire day preparing for a gargantuan Thanksgiving/ housewarming dinner, which (contrary to several naysayers *ahem*) was a resounding success:

Fully loaded for battle.

THURDAY EVENING

For starters...

Turkey unvealed

Oh-so-sinful desserts

After cleaning up, we headed over to Brian's for the latest 2 episodes of Lost (or dozing in my case), and at 5am, off to the Magnificent Mile for some Black Friday shopping! Found a coat from Filene's Basement at 30% off $17 =P
There weren't as many shops open as we'd expected, so at 8am Brian sent us home. Thus begins the all-out sleepfest:
0817 Crawl into bed
1240 Wake up momentarily; stare blearily at clock and promptly close eyes again
14?? Phone vibrates several times. Remain dead to the world (only knew this from checking my missed calls later - sorry Sihui!)
1600 Alarm goes off; housemate comes to check if I'm dead.
1601 Discover I can't speak.
1604 Heavily concentrated salt gargle to depleghm my throat.
1627 Finally call friends from Wisconsin back
17?? Discover the world is blanketed in white!
17?? Discover it's dark again, and I'm hungry
18?? Stumble around fixing dinner (turkey and potato leftovers)
23?? Discover I'm sleepy, and give up reading OChem (after the first page)
00?? SH calls; and in my sleepy stupor, agree not to ferry her home despite earlier promises to do so *ooops*
0712 Get up to recaffeinate, grab laptop and retreat under blanket
According to Wiki, the Pygmalion effect is describes as "a concept in psychology describing the behavior of individuals as people expect them to behave, named after the myth of Pygmalion... who falls in love with a statue he has made, from a poem by the roman poet Ovid."
Those of you who know would call my past day's (in)activity quite an un-Pygmalion feat - I've probably just spent my most unproductive 24 hours here in Chicago!
In any case, thanks are due:
- to all our wonderful guests, for gracing the occasion and contributing to our budding wine bottle garden
- my lovely housemates, and Yong Jin, for all the help in the kitchen
- to the real Chef, cos everyone knows we couldn't have done it without Him :)
