in a tizzy about Tizi
To celebrate the end of a tiring week (involving 39 deg C fevers and OChem all-nighters), Sam and I had dinner at Tizi Melloul:

"In our Crescent Room we have culled the best of the Mediterranean regions to create a unique dining experience. The lavish décor and low seating are inspired by traditional Moroccan furnishings. The smaller multi-course servings not only offer the opportunity to try a variety of items, but reflect the Spanish tapas-style manner of dining. The Italian emphasis on family-style sharing is also a signature feature of the Crescent Room. The menu itself is a diverse mixture of Spanish, French, Middle Eastern, Greek, Moroccan and Italian influences. The evening begins with the indulgent rose water hand washing. Although we recommend that you eat with your hands as they do in the Middle East, we do provide silverware for the less adventurous. Prix fix dinner: $30 per person before tax and gratuity.
STARTERS
- mezze of greek country olives, hummus, baba ghanouj, flat bread
APPETIZERS
- fire-roasted prince edward island mussels, warm harissa butter
- stuffed baby artichoke with eggplant tomato chutney, curry vinaigrette
SALAD
- mixed greens salad, shaved fennel, red onion, cucumber, tomato, black olives, goat cheese, red wine vinaigrette
ENTREES
- seasonal vegetable tagine, charmoula spiced feta, herbed chickpeas
- moroccan spiced marlin skewers, vegetable escalavida, tabbouleh, baharat spiced yogurt sauce
- lamb tagine, rosemary garlic infused white beans, ras el hanout
DESSERT
- semi-sweet chocolate fondue, seasonal fruit, cardamom poundcake
Special mention is due the mussels, the lamb and the FONDUE! *chocolate orgasm*
I *heart* Chicago! Even if it's -27 deg C out.
