things I take for granted
- Parents
Heh other than rides home from the MRT late at night... They really are vital to the upbringing of a child, more so than school or teachers. Was watching The Night Shift last Fri and it was all about this girl who suffers from a sleep disorder and commitment-phobia - a remnant of her watching her father kill her mother when she was like six. It was freaky cos it reflected that childhood is so vulnerable and so easily scarred :o
It saddens me to see how some of my kids at the centre suffer when their parents don't care (or can't, or won't). You can tell - the sort who hurriedly push their kid in the door and rush off, who can't be bothered to ask their kid what they learnt in school that day. I even have a kid who can't read cos his parents are busy sorting out a messy divorce and just won't discipline him for fear of him turning against them - he needs much more attention than any of the teachers here can give him, and Mum and Dad can only worry about who gets the house. :(
- Being Vocaluptuous
I like to ask ppl which they would rather lose, their sight or their hearing... then over the past week I realised it's even more tong4 ku3 not to be able to speak. You can't make your opinions known or even get your point across, and that sucks. Even if speech only constitutes 20% of communication... I like my full 20% thankyouverymuch. Thank God my voice is coming back, I was beginning to worry it wouldn't!
- Money
Have recently fallen into the bad habit of cabbing it everywhere. It's all too convenient to flag down one in SG... even the price hikes aren't stopping me. I just feel that skipping the long waits for the (very erratic) bus 14 and MRT saves time and beats the heat, esp when one is running a wee bit late... Have to keep reminding myself that a car is really a commodity.
- Hair
It's thinning. Shit la.

Can't tell you about any of the others, but I think a curly-haired Adela would be a great idea . . .
