square rooms...
Mambo Night was awesome! We got out on the dance floor at 1145 and only stopped at 0230... Only the steadily increasing crowd and the smoke were irritating, but the former was solved by dancing extra-vigorously and elbowing ppl before they elbowed you (;P) and the latter by periodical gusts of chilly CO2 that extinguished errant cigarette flames.
After that I spent the night at my friends' place in HV... wish I lived there, it's sooo convenient! The apartment is small but cosy and most imptly, AIR-CONDITIONED!! All of them are surviving very well on their own, and I was made perfectly comfortable... Oh I think PRCs are really very nice ppl, apart from their superior curve-screwing abilities. Overheard (in Chinese):
Guy: Girl ah, I'm leaving on Sunday already. You are the next oldest around here, must take of the other 2, I won't have peace of mind leaving you all alone."
Girl: "Aiya, dun say already! You're only leaving on Sunday, make me so sad now..."
(Mixed feelings at this. On one hand my feminist side was shouting, "Why do 3 girls need a guy to look after them? And you're like only 1yr older with not much experience living in Singapore..." On the other hand I was really touched that he genuinely cared about these girls. It was a very sweet if antiquated gesture.)
Apparently there's gonna be housing here too (to hothouse the next generation of young scientists! urgh eugenics.) But then again I heart the East... seriously cannot envision myself staying in a sthing-polis apartment.
So anyway I strolled in at 10am, checked mail, and went for some BGR talk (which was the most interesting one by far! can't believe they allowed the speaker a mere 20 MIN on this, while giving a full hour for the discussion of National Symbols ><).
After lunch I went back to lab to check if my prof was around (if not, I'd have happily gone off with the rest for KTV). But my over-helpful lab friend helped me contact my prof!! This made me properly ashamed since he is a Poly student who graduated from Normal Tech, and yet he's so passionate and knowledgeable about his project... so I dutifully went for this talk on nanocrystals... and promptly fell asleep.
